Discord IPO

Discord is a communications platform founded in 2015 by Jason Citron and Stan Vishnevskiy, originally designed for gaming communities. It has since evolved into a general-purpose communication tool used by over 600 million registered users across gaming, education, finance, entertainment, and creator communities.

The platform offers text, voice, and video communication organized into servers — communities created around shared interests — and direct messaging. Discord distinguishes itself through its server infrastructure, which allows community owners to create highly customized spaces with channels, roles, and bots. Its low latency voice technology was originally built for real-time gaming communication.

Discord generates revenue primarily through Discord Nitro, a subscription service offering enhanced features such as server boosts, animated avatars, and higher upload limits. The company filed for an IPO in January 2026 and is valued at between $15 billion and $25 billion. Discord has invested in AI features including a conversational AI assistant and AI-powered moderation tools.
